Chile's Largest Power Company Brings Electric Vehicles to the People
CHILECTRA to Fight Pollution and Traffic Congestion with ZAP Electric Bicycle, Scooter and Other Vehicles
SANTA ROSA, Calif. & SANTIAGO, Chile - To help mitigate pollution and traffic congestion, Chile's largest power company, CHILECTRA, will allow its customers to use their monthly utility bill to finance the purchase of electric bicycles, scooters, mopeds and other vehicles from US-based ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP).
As part of the program, CHILECTRA has signed an exclusive agreement with ZAP to distribute its full-line of electric transportation in Chile. CHILECTRA has placed an initial order, which includes the ZAP Power System electric bicycle kit, the ZAPPY3 and ZAPPY3 PRO personal electric transporter, as well as the new Zapino moped class electric scooter.
CHILECTRA is planning to launch the campaign in October where some of Chile's biggest shopping malls will showcase ZAP bikes and scooters.
"CHILECTRA has created a model program giving people for the first time in their lives the ability to use credit to purchase their very own motorized transportation," said Fernando Cancela, Director of International Affairs for ZAP. "This will improve the quality of life for thousands of people by advocating cleaner vehicle technologies while offering greater freedom of mobility. This is a wonderful opportunity to apply ZAP technologies in a place where they are most needed."
Santiago, Chile, next to Mexico City and Sao Paulo, suffers from some of the worst air pollution in Latin America. Electric vehicles produce zero exhaust emissions and studies show that compared to gas they can reduce automotive emissions by more than 90 percent, even including the emissions from power plants to generate the electricity. If charged at night, electric vehicles can use off-peak electrical generation, meaning no additional pollution.
CHILECTRA had been researching the electric vehicle market for the past year,
and found ZAP to be the only company with a full-line approach that meets the desired criteria for quality, service and aftermarket support.
Officials with CHILECTRA and ZAP have studied transportation patterns
in Chile and say that, while there is an opportunity to reduce air pollution, there is also an opportunity to help improve urban mobility. Chileans spend hours per day and about $30 per month using mass transit. A ZAP vehicle can reduce transportation time and costs half compared to taking the bus. Plus, under the monthly payment plan, the electrical customer can own the vehicle within 36 months.

As Oil Prices Pass $70, ZAP Electric Vehicles Zoom
SANTA ROSA, Calif., Sales for electric vehicles from ZAP
(OTCBB: ZAAP) are taking off faster than predicted. Initial supplies of the ZAPPY3 and Zapino scooters have now sold out and ZAP estimates a 4-week waiting list.
"We have increased our orders and the new shipments are
expected by the end of July," said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider.
With gas reaching an all-time high in June, ZAP an alternative
transportation company based in Santa Rosa, California says interest for all of its electric vehicles have increased beyond their expectations. The Zapino, a new motorbike design introduced last month, sold out in just over two weeks. Likewise, ZAP's ZAPPY3 line of personal electric transporters sold out during one of the busiest buying seasons of the year.
"The price of fossil fuels is one of the most important reasons why
ZAP exists -- to provide alternatives," said Schneider. "As we celebrate Independence Day, I think we should revisit the idea of energy independence that can be so important to the U.S. economy. EVs can even help with your own personal finance."
Schneider noted that electric vehicles typically cost a fraction
of gas vehicles. ZAP's electric XEBRAs cost between one and three cents a mile, compared to more than 20 cents a mile for conventional automobiles.
Schneider cited recent reports that more than 60 percent of the oil
used in the USA is now imported. In the USA, about 25 barrels of oil per person are consumed each year, and 15 of those barrels are imported. At an average cost of $70 per barrel, the imported oil costs more than $1,000 per person per year. The U.S. has just three percent of the known world oil reserves, yet we use 25 percent of the world's oil.
"In order to end our country's addiction to oil and combat global
warming, we must focus on real solutions like increasing vehicle fuel efficiency and increasing our use of electric cars," said Schneider.

Bio-Synthesis - Synthesis of Novel Backbone Modified DNA
.With the industry growing so rapidly, there are young companies sprouting all over the place. Many of these same companies are not successful and do not last very long. Bio-Synthesis has been the world leader in custom services since our inception in 1984. Over two decades of the highest quality of products, coupled with fast turnaround time and affordability has enabled BSI to stand in no one else's shadow. Go with a company you know you can trust. Go with a company who cares about your research needs as much as you do. Whether its peptides, antibodies, DNA, RNA, or PNA, BSI will treat your needs like our own. Contact us now for your next quote, and see the difference a well-established company can make.
2.Synthesis of Novel Backbone Modified DNA
Bio-Synthesis inc., senior scientists Dr's Jianhua Ye and Miguel Castro completed the synthesis of a new kind of modified DNA. Normally there is a phosphodiester backbone linking the nuecleotides in a DNA strand, however hese diester bonds are susceptible to degradation by DNA'ses, present in living cells. One way to extend the half life of DNA is by modifying the phosphodiester backbone. In this work four monomers were constructed, which upon chemical coupling produce a peptide like backbone which is unaffected by nucleases, thereby increasing the half life of these molecules and consequently extending its intended activity.
3.The DNA Synthesis Division of Bio-Synthesis Inc is happy to announce another custom service: Mini Gene synthesis; with the capability to synthesize 100-200 bases long oligonucleotides we can put together small genes together; a small gene can be defined as one that encodes for 30-60 residuesin length. The ability to chemically synthesize proves very useful to the biomedical researcher that studies control of gene expression; a minigene can code for a peptide that can be an antagonist to a regulatory protein. We can deliver minigenes in about 5-7 days. For more information please call the DNA Synthesis Division.
4.Bio-Synthesis Inc is proud to announce the recent acquisition of a sophisticated Multiple Peptide Synthesizer, the Vantage from ACT, Louiville, Kentucky. This instrument has four dispensor tips, which allows for parallel washings, decreasing cycling times for peptide assembly. The Vantage is also equipped with a heating device which allows use to conduct reactions at 80 degrees Celsius, which expedites coupling times. This unit will help us to prepare a large number of peptides( 96 at a time) for applications such us peptide microarrays and discovery scale peptides; where researcher needs small quantities(imilligram or less) but in large numbers.
Bio-Synthesis has released an updated description for peptide synthesis; this allows peptide researchers to get a view of the broad spectrum of our capabilities:
Peptides are complex molecules and each peptide sequence is unique with regard to its chemical and physical properties. Peptides are synthesized by the solid-phase method using Fmoc chemistry on an Omega 396 multiple peptide synthesizer from Advanced ChemTech. The Core also uses an Applied Biosystems Model 431A Synthesizer for longer peptides. Synthesis is carried out at 50 µmole, 100 µmole or 250 µmole scales. On an average, a synthesis scale of 100 µmoles will yield about 50-70 mg of a 10-residue peptide and 100-150 mg of a 20-residue peptide depending on the substitution rating of the resin. The peptide synthesis service provides a complete spectrum of services that include, synthesis, cleavage, HPLC purification, peptide modifications, cyclization and mass analysis for quality assurance. Before submitting your peptide sequences to the Core, it is advisable to consider the following:
* Every peptide sequence synthesized is a unique one. Some peptides sequences are difficult to synthesize although, we attempt to synthesize every peptide sequence.
* Peptides with multiple cysteines, methionine, arginine and tryptophan residues can often be difficult to synthesize.
* Avoid a proline residue at the C-terminal of the peptide.
* The peptide will be de-protected and cleaved from the resin with 82.5-90% trifluoroacetic acid, partially purified, and lyophilized. The lyophilized material will be provided as a "crude" preparation. Turnaround time is about ten days to three weeks depending on the length of the peptide and purity level. When requested, the peptide will be purified further (see below).
For further questions please feel free to contact our Peptide Synthesis Division at 1800-227-0627
5.Peptide-PNA bioconjugates
Our peptide Synthesis Division has successfully Developer methods to synthesize bioconjugates such us PNA’s linked to peptides; the hybrid molecule can be up to 60 residues in length and can be half PNA and half peptide linked together or they can be alternating PNA residues with peptide residues. This type of bioconjugates can be used to deliver peptide sequences inside a living cell, by using peptide sequences at one end that have the ability to penetrate the cell membrane and carry along a PNA, that can be targeted to a regulatory DNA sequence, then upon binding to it, it can interfere with its expression( production of a protein).
6.We are happy to announce that Biosearch Technologies of Novato, California, have extended Bio-Synthesis Inc, of Lewisville, Texas their line of Fluorescent dyes and quenchers for use in biomedical research applications. End users who source Biosearch dyes for any purpose other than non-commercial R&D applications will still be required to contact the Biosearch Technologies Licensing Department to obtain a Commercial Use License. These dyes are chemically couple to synthetic oligonucleotides and provide an excellent means for non-radioactive detection of DNA targets. Bio-Synthesis Inc have been providing custom synthetic oligonucleotides to the biomedical research community worldwide since 1984.
