XsunX Announces Improved Production Efficiencies
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., June 13, 2005 - XsunX, Inc. (OTCBB: XSNX), developer of Power Glass(tm) - an innovative solar technology that allows glass windows to produce electricity from the power of the sun, released information today on the benefits of its recent success in the development of more efficient manufacturing techniques. This development allowed the Company to produce its first transparent solar cell on inexpensive thin-film plastic.
XsunX is developing Power Glass transparent solar cells on Polyethylenenapthalate (PEN) and Polyethylene Terphtalate (PET) plastics. The advantage in the use of PEN and PET is that these plastics are significantly less expensive -- ranging between $.40 and $1.10 U.S. per square meter. To use these films, XsunX has had to develop ways of building solar cells at much lower temperatures than used in other solar cell manufacturing techniques.
For the sake of comparison, DuPont (NYSE:DD) manufactures a popular thin-film plastic product called Kapton. Kapton is widely used in the manufacture of thin-film solar cells due to its ability to resist more than double the heat as PEN and PET based plastics. However, this feature does not come without added cost as Kapton is about $11 per square meter.
XsunX's believes that the use of films such as PEN and PET that are between 900% and 3000% cheaper than DuPont's Kapton or other similar polyimide based films will provide a lower production line price-point and a competitive advantage to manufacturers that use Power Glass in their products.
The Company's low temperature processing capabilities have been achieved through incremental process development under the watchful eye of Dr. Arun Madan, Chairman of the XsunX Scientific Advisory Board and founder of MVSystems, Inc. ``We believe that the use of PET and PEN plastics to produce rolls of true thin-film transparent solar cells may represent a high degree of commercial viability to the multi-billion dollar glass and high performance coatings industry. We are committed to innovation and continue our efforts to bring product to market as quickly as possible,'' said Dr. Arun Madan, Chairman Scientific Advisory Board and director of XsunX research.
About XsunX
XsunX, Inc. is developing Power Glass(tm) - an innovative solar technology that allows glass windows to produce electricity from the power of the sun. This means that inhabitants of buildings that have Power Glass(tm) films integrated into the skin of the building will be able to continue to view the great outdoors - as if they were looking through conventional glass windows. The difference is that these windows will now produce electricity to use to offset dependency on local utility supplied power and increase overall building operational efficiencies.
This use of Photovoltaics in building materials is a growing market opportunity referred to as Building Integrated Photovoltaics or ``BIPV''. XsunX intends to become a recognized leader in the Building Integrated Photovoltaics industry. The Company plans to market the XsunX Power Glass(tm) solar cell structure and manufacturing process as a competitive alternative to non-energy producing coatings and glazing for applications in the worldwide architectural glass, optical film, and plastics markets. XsunX, Inc., a Building Integrated Photovoltaics Developer, Completes Significant Milestone in Solar Power Glass™ Product Development
POINT ROBERTS, Wash., June 22, 2005 – www.RenewableEnergyStocks.com (RES), an investor and industry news portal for the renewable energy sector, reports that XsunX, Inc. (OTCBB: XSNX), a developer of Power Glass™ -- an innovative solar technology that allows glass windows to generate electricity from the power of the sun, has successfully completed a significant milestone as the Company has produced new prototypes of PowerGlass™ on transparent polyesters such as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN), inexpensive thin-film plastics. This milestone was a direct result of key additions to XsunX’s Scientific Advisory Board, and advances in R&D efforts, to take advantage of the overall growing market for alternative energy.
XsunX has expanded their R&D capabilities by adding new process development equipment and technical expertise. Dr. Richard Rocheleau, Dr. Arokia Nathan and Dr. John J. Moore joined the Scientific Advisory Board, bringing their expertise in thin-films and laser process development. These new efforts have produced strong results on thin-film plastics and new working prototypes of Power Glass™.
The efforts of XsunX’s Scientific Advisory Board have helped Photovoltaics (PV) (the science of capturing and converting energy into electricity) mature within an industry growing at unprecedented rates. XsunX recently announced that their use of films such as PEN and PET are between 900% and 3000% cheaper than DuPont's Kapton and other similar polyimide based films. In addition, in order to utilize this technology and take advantage of the costs savings associated with PEN and PET films, XsunX has developed methods of building solar cells at significantly lower temperatures than levels used in other solar cell manufacturing techniques. The Company’s management believes that the resulting savings from XsunX’s thin-film developments will provide a lower production line price-point and a competitive advantage to manufacturers that use Power Glass in their products.
Photovoltaics continues to gain momentum on an international scale as a viable energy source, and has recently picked up added support from the Bush administration. A budget proposal sent to Congress by President Bush included what the solar industry is calling "a promising new initiative" to advance the development of crystalline silicon solar power. The Crystalline Silicon Initiative seeks to re-establish U.S. market leadership and technology ownership in the PV industry. Many industry leaders believe the initiative will start solar power on a path to deliver half of all new U.S. electricity generation by 2025.
The Company believes this may help to position Power Glass™ as a competitive power-producing alternative to non-energy producing thin films for applications in the worldwide architectural glass and optical film markets. According to Dr. Arun Madan, XsunX’s Scientific Advisory Board Chairman and Director of Research, “We believe that the use of PET and PEN plastics to produce rolls of true thin-film transparent solar cells may represent a high degree of commercial viability to the multi-billion dollar glass and high performance coatings industry.”
XsunX has begun shipments of Power Glass™ samples to manufacturers for use in product development and testing. These first shipments represent the importance of working with innovative product manufacturers and mark the expansion for XsunX from pure R&D operations into the business development arena.
The Company continues to expand its working relationships and strategic alliances and is committed to driving product development tests into revenue producing relationships as soon as possible. The Company is gearing up to begin beta product development efforts and has received interest from companies representing product applications in the building materials and automotive sectors.
XsunX has gained notable interest within the financial and alternative technologies communities and, as the technology continues to develop, anticipates attracting additional analysis, industry interest, and coverage.
“We introduced new staff and continue to make technological advances. This continues to be an exciting year with significant achievements and opportunities for XsunX,” said Tom M. Djokovich CEO, XsunX, Inc.

RenewableEnergyStocks.com Reports – “Green Building Design and Integrated Solar Photovoltaics Gains Momentum as Viable Option for Alternative Energy and Environmentally Conscious Construction.” [General] |
05/12/2005 @ 22:55 (GMT +9) |
RenewableEnergyStocks.com Reports – “Green Building Design and Integrated Solar Photovoltaics Gains Momentum as Viable Option for Alternative Energy and Environmentally Conscious Construction.”
POINT ROBERTS, Wash., June 27, 2005 – www.RenewableEnergyStocks.com (RES), an investor and industry news portal for the renewable energy sector, reports on the rise of ‘green building’ and the increased adoption, implementation and growing popularity of environmentally conscious construction, utilizing renewable energy technologies such as Building Integrated Solar Photovoltaics (BIPV). Companies operating in this arena include Kyocera (NYSE: KYO) through their solar subsidiary Kyocera Solar Corporation and XsunX, Inc. (OTCBB: XSNX), a developer of Power Glass™ - a solar glass product that allows photovoltaic material in the form of photoelectric panels, to be incorporated into the design of buildings providing additional sources for power production as well as national builder Centex Corporation (NYSE: CTX).
Many believe that green building represents the future of construction, design and renovation as the industry, government and society moves towards the reduction of resources, energy independence and environmental protection. In addition, rising costs of heating and cooling, issues with health conditions due to poor air quality and disposal problems associated with construction waste and debris can be addressed as builders move towards green building techniques and materials. What was once considered to be a fad is proving itself to be here for the long run.
A significant component of the industry’s increasing attention towards green building is the growing demand for Building Integrated Photovoltaics, which integrates the process for energy generation technology into building design and materials. In the use of BIPV technologies, the solar power elements actually become an integral part of the building, often serving as the exterior weathering skin, achieving two purposes - producing electricity and replacing construction materials. XsunX’s Power Glass™ technology is a current example of this as it provides glass manufacturers and builders with the opportunity to turn the glass skin of modern high rise and commercial buildings into massive power generating systems and the resulting power produced can be used to power lights, elevators and other building power needs, explains Mr. Tom Djokovich, XsunX’s CEO.
Helping to drive the renewable energy market is the rising demand for electrical power. In the U.S., this demand is anticipated to grow substantially from less than 0.4 GW in 2003 to 200GW by 2030.The growth in installed solar systems would equate to the same amount of new solar electrical production by 2030 as 40 new large nuclear facilities. As Mr. Djokovich explains, "Electrical power generation is rapidly becoming an issue of not how much fuel is needed to meet growing power generation demands, but rather the cost of building new power generation facilities, distribution networks, and dealing with the environmental impacts.
Solar Photovoltaics (PV) has recently received added support from the Bush administration as part of the Government’s Homeland Security initiatives towards energy independence and alternative resources. A budget proposal sent to Congress by President Bush included what the solar industry is calling "a promising new initiative" to advance the development of crystalline silicon solar power. The Crystalline Silicon Initiative seeks to re-establish U.S. market leadership and technology ownership in the PV industry. Many industry leaders believe the initiative will start solar power on a path to deliver half of all new U.S. electrical generation by 2025.
Growing interest in solar integrated products has also experienced a tremendous boost from the housing boom, which has accelerated installations of PV in residential and commercial buildings. California is at the forefront of this increased demand for real estate and solar products. Premier Homes, Pardee Homes, Morrison Homes and Davis Energy Group working with Centex Corporation (NYSE: CTX), are examples of builders integrating solar PV in homes and subdivisions within California, taking advantage of the declining costs of technology, and the rising costs of current energy sources. According to Claudia Chandler, the California Energy Commission’s Assistant Executive Director, solar power in California is here for the long run. In 1998 California generated six megawatts from photovoltaic panels compared to current day generation levels of 100 megawatts form both commercial and residential buildings.
It is anticipated that this trend towards the incorporation of energy efficient technology in the walls, roofs and windows of residential, commercial and industrial buildings will continue to grow and develop as the forces of increased demand for resources, Homeland Security and the ongoing housing boom continue to push the envelope. Building Integrated Photovoltaics finds itself immersed in this movement as it offers a viable alternative to overcoming existing energy shortages, rising construction and building maintenance costs and environmental risk.
